Staring at the Sun: The IRIS Space Telescope

Launched in June 2013, NASA’s sharp-eyed IRIS space telescope studies a hard-to-observe part of the sun’s lower atmosphere. Scientists hope to learn about what happens in this area, the source of much solar material and most of the ultraviolet light that hits Earth.
