First spotted in November 1572, the exploded star dubbed “Tycho’s supernova” shook the long-held idea that the heavens don’t change. Named for astronomer Tycho Brahe, it was visible in daytime but faded by 1574 … and wasn’t seen again until a telescope revealed it in the 1960s.
