The Year Without a Summer

In the Northern Hemisphere, 1816 was the Year Without a Summer, when frost killed crops and snowstorms raged in June. It was caused partly by an 1815 volcanic eruption in Indonesia that released so much ash into the atmosphere, it blocked a huge amount of sunlight.
