by Kids Discover

Tonsilloliths, or tonsil stones, form when dead cells and other material get trapped in the crevices of your tonsils and harden. Bacteria in the stones can make them smell bad. Sometimes they’re visible as white lumps, but often they can only be seen with a CT scan or MRI. (Alila Medical Media / Shutterstock)
