Why Jumping Beans Jump

A moth called Laspeyresia saltitans is the secret of those mysterious jumping beans. The insect’s larvae grow inside the beans. When the tiny creatures move, the beans jump! Eventually, if left alone, the moths mature, and then they climb out and fly away.
