These star-shaped, orange-colored “astrocytes” are special kinds of cells that provide blood to the brain and help neurons stay healthy. The nucleus of each cell is shown in blue. The green cells are “neural progenitor cells,” which can grow into astrocytes. This image looks like an abstract painting, but it is actually a photo taken with a microscope.
