Teaching November 2025

November is here, and with it comes a chance to connect classroom learning to the moments that have shaped our world. From scientific breakthroughs to cultural celebrations, Kids Discover Online has resources to make lesson planning easy and engaging. Here are seven dates this month that are perfect for sparking curiosity in your students.

Native American Heritage Month

Each November, we recognize and celebrate Native American Heritage Month, honoring the history, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across the United States. Students can explore the diverse cultures and ways of life of Native American communities through our Native America Unit, as well as region-specific Units on the Eastern Woodland Indians, Northwest Coast Peoples, Plains Indians, and Southwest Peoples. These resources offer a rich look at art, housing, food, and storytelling, encouraging students to appreciate the depth and diversity of Indigenous history.

November 1 – Day of the Dead

Observed each year on November 1 and 2, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a vibrant Mexican tradition that honors loved ones who have passed away. Rather than focusing on sadness, it celebrates life, memory, and family through music, food, and colorful altars. Students can explore this beautiful holiday and the culture that surrounds it with our Mexico Unit, where they’ll learn about Mexico’s geography, history, traditions, and the deep significance of remembrance in its culture.

November 7 – Marie Curie’s Birthday

Born on this day in 1867, Marie Curie was a trailblazing chemist and physicist who became the first person to win Nobel Prizes in two scientific fields. Her pioneering research on radioactivity not only transformed modern chemistry but also paved the way for advancements in medicine and energy. Celebrate her legacy by diving into our Chemistry Unit, where students can learn about elements, compounds, and the scientists who changed the way we understand matter.

November 8 – National STEM Day

National STEM Day is the perfect opportunity to inspire curiosity and creativity in your classroom. On November 8, encourage students to think like engineers using our Engineering and Engineering Solutions Units, which highlight how design thinking, innovation, and problem-solving shape the world around us. Whether they’re exploring how bridges are built or how renewable energy systems work, students will see firsthand how STEM skills turn imagination into real-world solutions.

November 11 – Veterans Day

Veterans Day honors those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Bring this day to life with our World War I and World War II Units, where students can explore major events, figures, and turning points in global history. These lessons provide meaningful context for understanding the bravery, teamwork, and resilience that define military service and its impact on our world today.

November 17 – National Take a Hike Day

Get students moving and learning outdoors with National Take a Hike Day! This day encourages appreciation for nature and exploration of the great outdoors. Pair your activity with our Mountains Unit, where students can learn about how mountains form, the ecosystems they support, and the role they play in Earth’s geography. It’s a perfect blend of science and adventure!
