Solar System

Solar System Run Slideshow

Feel like taking a spin? You’re already taking one! You and everything else on Earth are rotating at a speed of up to 1,000 miles per hour right now. Not to mention that the Earth is spinning around the Sun, and the Sun is spinning around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Getting dizzy yet? In Solar System, kids will be introduced to this incredible celestial ballet – as well as the many planetary bodies that perform it.

It all starts with a look inside the Sun and the massive nuclear reactions that fuel it. Then take a bird’s-eye view of planet Earth, learning about its composition, characteristics and why it’s the only planet with life on it (as far as we know). After that, take a tour of Earth’s rocky neighbors, Mercury, Venus, and Mars, and the gas giants that lurk in the outer reaches of the solar system. For kids interested in meteor showers, a list of when to catch them is included, as well as cool facts about asteroids, comets, and dwarf planets. Finally, check out the constellations, and then dig into myths and lore about the solar system. For kids who are all about space, this is a stellar issue!
